Dec. 26,27, 28, 29, 30, 31

Dec. 26, 1959-Went to dinner at Katie's rained in the evening.
1960-Went to Christmas dinner at Rowe's with Wilson's. Nice day mild no snow
1961-To Wichita to Jolius for Christmas celebration went with Katie & girls.
1962-10 degrees below zero. didn't do much pain in side.
1963-Washed good day to Katie's in eve, group went caroling

Dec. 27, 59
To S.S. & church a.m., Mickey & Dick went with us, here for dinner. It snowed all forenoon.
1960- Got ready for our dinner. Dad to Florence p.m., had about 3 in snow.
1961-wrote thank you letters
1962- 6 above zero. bright sun shine
1963-Ironed, Dad to Pete Dalble funeral with Arnold & Theo K. Rod came

Dec. 28, 1959 Wrote some letters, worked with quilt pieces.
Carollers came.
1960-Katie, girls & Joluis here for dinner, for over Christmas white Christmas"
1961- Wrote more letters, Dad split wood for Katie p.m. Carolers came eve.
1962-Washed damp & nasty weather, dried clothes around stove.
1963-Did Sat. work. Dad & Rod went hunting p.m.

Dec. 29, 1959-Cold- Dad subcribed for Wichita Eagle. I wrote some letters, worked on quilt blocks.
1960-
1961-Dad to Wichita for appointment. Rowe boys came home with him.
1962-Ironed a.m. cleaned p.m.
1963-To church. Mae, Alta, Doug came for dinner & to get Rod.

Dec. 30, 1959-
1960-
1961-Did up Sat. work, went to Katies p.m. boys went to hunting there. Dad took police dog back to Wilsons. Mae left for Florida
1962-To church & S.S. Mae came for dinner.
1963-Did very little.

Dec. 31 1959 Mickey left for San Diego after 14 day leave.
Did up work, Pecks stopped in p.m.
1960-
1961-To church & S.S. Alta came for dinner & to get boys.
1962-Did up work. Pecks stopped in p.m.
1963-Alta brought Rod, he and Dad went hunting. Rod stayed all night.

Grandma Z's Diary (*Side Bar - Thought I would write little memories)

July 22nd post-
Kansas was like a different world to me, couldn't understand why my Grandpa Z would measure rainfall. When we would visit, my dad would measure the rain too. In Florida, it would rain across the street but not on our side, or visa versa.

Grandma Z's house had an "out house", think maybe it had a Sears catalog, that could have been my imagination, but there was an out house (is that one word or two?) I remember the year that we visited, that they brought the outdoor indoor - indoor pluming, thank goodness!

I have been so blessed, I have had such a wonderful family. My parents moved to Florida before I was born, just after my father got out of the service, they came with my mothers, parents. I was very close to my mothers, mother. We called her Mom, she was my best friend.

My fathers side of the family, lived in Kansas. Every three years, we would pack up the car, off to Kansas. We stayed at Grandpa & Grandma Z's until I was a teenager, then I would stay at my aunts.

This blog is about, getting to know my Grandma Z, through her diary.

I remember sleeping on the couch, and every morning (early) my Grandmother sitting in her chair and reading her bible, I just thought that was so wonderful, to start the day.

Hopefully, my family will write things they remember-There is so much stuff about our family to be shared.

My cousin writes-

"The kids have no idea what they missed and what a wonderful woman she was. I have always said if there was ever an angel on earth it was Grandma Z."

Jan. 4, 2010-Returned from our trip, cold this morning, low 40's, finally got to light our fireplace. Grandma Z had a wonderful garden, she took me out into the garden to get some potato's for dinner, welllllllllllllll, me, being a "city girl" thought potatoes grew on trees, looking up, I didn't see any! We dug those dirty potatoes up, they were so dirty. We brought some of those dirty potatoes home- that did it, I didn't eat another one until I was an adult. I must have been very young, maybe 6 or 7.

Jan. 14, 2010-Grandma Z had this room, the room had a milk separator, I really don't know what it was called, but it did separate the cream from the milk. I thought that was really neat. The cows name was Daisy, at least that is what I called her, my brother tryed to ride, sweet lookin Daisy. He didn't stay on too long, he went a flying. I remember Daisy had little bangs over her horns, she was so cute.

Jan. 18, 2010-That same room had a large tub, Grandma Z heated water so I could take a bath, no in door plumbing when I was young, that came later, thank goodness.

Her house had a wonderful smell, lye soap, I think.

Feb. 10, 2010-Reading about Grandma Z's anniversary, made me think of my Dad. What a wonderful person he was, but not really affectionate, but that was the way he was raised. My Dad would ask me to go out and buy my Mother a gift and a card, then he would sign the card "from" instead of "Love", but he would change it after I would say something.

June 2010-Took a long weekend trip to North Carolina for a "Sample Book Making" class.

My finger is better, still pains me a little when I type caps, still have the two fingers taped together. Go back to the doctor in a few week, think I will live.
