May 8,1959-Mowed east yd. a.m. rained p.m. Enid and Rosemary brought me a carnation corsage.
1960-Mother Day Mae took me to church and SS brought me a corsage, Knox's came for dinner, Wilson's came we had a nice day. Walter G. called
1961-
1962-Worked outside a.m. planted melons and pop corn..
1963Dad & Shorty to El Do a.m.
May 9,1959-Did St cleaning went to El Do p.m.
1960-cool -Worked outside most of day Dad maintained.
1961-Washed a.m. Mariana came p.m. brought b-day gift and cake-Katie and girls came eve, Dad & Chas. fished eve.
1962-Planted glad bulbs & Asters Zinnias.
1963-hot & rainy-Picked first strawberries a.m. watered garden p.m. to Katie's eve. Ralph G. showed pictures.
May 10,1959-Cloudy and rainy. Mae came and took us to church. All day meeting 60Th anniversary. Alta & Wilson's came p.m. rained & blew. Mae gave me a corsage.
1960-Dad maintained. Cold & Windy. I worked outside am to guild pm
1961-Ironed a.m. Dad mowed cemetery am fished pm
1962-Watered eve. Mr. Campbell stopped, Dad to El Do eve.
1963-Dad to Burns am I mowed east lawn. set out tomato (hybrid) plants picked 2 qt strawberries
May 11, 1959-beautiful day. Washed and ironed
1960-cold & windy.. Cleaned & pressed clothes a.m. mowed yd. p.m. cultivated potatoes
1961-
1962-To Katie's eve.
1963-Cleaned a.m. Dad worked on irrigation for lower garden
May 12,1959-Warm, Wrote to Herbs & Rica, patched p.m. Dad maintained
1960-lovely day. Washed living room curtains and cleaned wood work a.m. planted red and Lima beans. Dad mowed cemetery.
1961-
1962-picked first strawberry pt, cleaned
1963-Mothers day, To church and SS Knox's for dinner, Rowe's, Mae & Pecks too. Rain at night.
May 13, 1959-Cool, worked outside all day.
1960-fine day
1961-cleaned am went to El Do pm Anna & I went to Ben Hur show.
1962-To church a.m. to Knox's for dinner Rowe's Mae and Wilson's there we went with Wilson's, to board meeting eve.
1963-Washed and made soap a.m. picked 6 qt st berries p.m. sorted and stemmed them
May 14,1959-Cool, Cleaned and painted bedroom. Dad maintained cultivated garden mowed lawn, lovely day.
1960-Washed and cleaned. Dad & Shorty went fishing.
1961-Mae came took us to church and to Newtons Guest House for dinner, Rowe's came p.m. we went to Katie's for dinner eve Ralph showed pictures.
May 15, 1959-Cool, hoed flower bed, set out ? tomato plants went to cemetery eve t Katie's later
1960-Foggy and Cloudy. To church and s.s. a.m. no company rested p.m.
1961-
1962-To Guild at Dallies p.m. had part of lesson
1963-
May 16,1959-cool, cleaned Dad to town to get starter on station wagon fixed then went fishing.

Grandma Z's Diary (*Side Bar - Thought I would write little memories)

July 22nd post-
Kansas was like a different world to me, couldn't understand why my Grandpa Z would measure rainfall. When we would visit, my dad would measure the rain too. In Florida, it would rain across the street but not on our side, or visa versa.

Grandma Z's house had an "out house", think maybe it had a Sears catalog, that could have been my imagination, but there was an out house (is that one word or two?) I remember the year that we visited, that they brought the outdoor indoor - indoor pluming, thank goodness!

I have been so blessed, I have had such a wonderful family. My parents moved to Florida before I was born, just after my father got out of the service, they came with my mothers, parents. I was very close to my mothers, mother. We called her Mom, she was my best friend.

My fathers side of the family, lived in Kansas. Every three years, we would pack up the car, off to Kansas. We stayed at Grandpa & Grandma Z's until I was a teenager, then I would stay at my aunts.

This blog is about, getting to know my Grandma Z, through her diary.

I remember sleeping on the couch, and every morning (early) my Grandmother sitting in her chair and reading her bible, I just thought that was so wonderful, to start the day.

Hopefully, my family will write things they remember-There is so much stuff about our family to be shared.

My cousin writes-

"The kids have no idea what they missed and what a wonderful woman she was. I have always said if there was ever an angel on earth it was Grandma Z."

Jan. 4, 2010-Returned from our trip, cold this morning, low 40's, finally got to light our fireplace. Grandma Z had a wonderful garden, she took me out into the garden to get some potato's for dinner, welllllllllllllll, me, being a "city girl" thought potatoes grew on trees, looking up, I didn't see any! We dug those dirty potatoes up, they were so dirty. We brought some of those dirty potatoes home- that did it, I didn't eat another one until I was an adult. I must have been very young, maybe 6 or 7.

Jan. 14, 2010-Grandma Z had this room, the room had a milk separator, I really don't know what it was called, but it did separate the cream from the milk. I thought that was really neat. The cows name was Daisy, at least that is what I called her, my brother tryed to ride, sweet lookin Daisy. He didn't stay on too long, he went a flying. I remember Daisy had little bangs over her horns, she was so cute.

Jan. 18, 2010-That same room had a large tub, Grandma Z heated water so I could take a bath, no in door plumbing when I was young, that came later, thank goodness.

Her house had a wonderful smell, lye soap, I think.

Feb. 10, 2010-Reading about Grandma Z's anniversary, made me think of my Dad. What a wonderful person he was, but not really affectionate, but that was the way he was raised. My Dad would ask me to go out and buy my Mother a gift and a card, then he would sign the card "from" instead of "Love", but he would change it after I would say something.

June 2010-Took a long weekend trip to North Carolina for a "Sample Book Making" class.

My finger is better, still pains me a little when I type caps, still have the two fingers taped together. Go back to the doctor in a few week, think I will live.
