April 29-May 3

April 29, 1959-Warm 80 degrees, mowed yd a.m. baked rolls and pie made salad for church supper eve at Burns.
April 29,1960-
" "61-Went to El Do found Peck sick. bought everyday shoes. Set out 14 tomato plants eve.
1962-To church and s.s. Mae came for dinner
1963-Washed, Showery weather - did some ironing
April 30,1959-Hot 86. Watered strawberries a.m. Ruth came p.m. did some mending, Dad on road got birthday gift from Pearl.
1960-
1961-To church and s.s. Rowe's came for dinner. Dad to El Do with church board p.m.
1962-Washed and ironed Dad mowed lawn
1963-Finished ironing, did mending a.m. to w.s.c.s. at church p.m.
May 1,1959-
1960-To Junction City with G girls to G reunion, nice day.
1961-Cold wind-The Rev. Hines called here for dinner (Peck not better) I cleaned woodwork, windows & curtains in living room p.m.
1962-Worked outside cleaned a garden helped Dad put cultivator on tractor, he cultivated potatoes 1st time.
1963-Worked outside Dad cultivated garden, we planted pop corn. (you plant pop corn???) Katie & girls came eve for my birthday.
May 2, 1959-Mowed east yd a.m. shower at 9:30 Dad & Shorty went fishing came back, Dad to town some fished p.m.
1960-Washed a.m. set out tomato's and pepper plants.
1961-Did some outside work.
1962-Charley's new boy arrived. Went to w.s.c.s. and quilting at Marjorie Gfellers Katie and Girls came eve.
1963-Mariana came for dinner for my birthday.
May 3,1959-hot and windy. Went to Gfeller reunion with Gfellers.
1960-Ironed a.m. Ruth came dinner a.m. Mariana Steve came p.m. Rowe's & Mae came eve.
1961Went to w.s.c.s. at Anna Kaus had lesson. Rainy day, Mae Alta & boys came evening brought supper.
1962-Ruth & Mariana came p.m. Alta & Mae came eve brought supper, dress picnic basket & money.
1963Set out tomato plants mowed yids. Alta Mae boys came eve. Ruth came eve. brought supper & desert. Ruth came p.m. brought cake raisin bread meat sherbet, Dad grilled p.m.

Grandma Z's Diary (*Side Bar - Thought I would write little memories)

July 22nd post-
Kansas was like a different world to me, couldn't understand why my Grandpa Z would measure rainfall. When we would visit, my dad would measure the rain too. In Florida, it would rain across the street but not on our side, or visa versa.

Grandma Z's house had an "out house", think maybe it had a Sears catalog, that could have been my imagination, but there was an out house (is that one word or two?) I remember the year that we visited, that they brought the outdoor indoor - indoor pluming, thank goodness!

I have been so blessed, I have had such a wonderful family. My parents moved to Florida before I was born, just after my father got out of the service, they came with my mothers, parents. I was very close to my mothers, mother. We called her Mom, she was my best friend.

My fathers side of the family, lived in Kansas. Every three years, we would pack up the car, off to Kansas. We stayed at Grandpa & Grandma Z's until I was a teenager, then I would stay at my aunts.

This blog is about, getting to know my Grandma Z, through her diary.

I remember sleeping on the couch, and every morning (early) my Grandmother sitting in her chair and reading her bible, I just thought that was so wonderful, to start the day.

Hopefully, my family will write things they remember-There is so much stuff about our family to be shared.

My cousin writes-

"The kids have no idea what they missed and what a wonderful woman she was. I have always said if there was ever an angel on earth it was Grandma Z."

Jan. 4, 2010-Returned from our trip, cold this morning, low 40's, finally got to light our fireplace. Grandma Z had a wonderful garden, she took me out into the garden to get some potato's for dinner, welllllllllllllll, me, being a "city girl" thought potatoes grew on trees, looking up, I didn't see any! We dug those dirty potatoes up, they were so dirty. We brought some of those dirty potatoes home- that did it, I didn't eat another one until I was an adult. I must have been very young, maybe 6 or 7.

Jan. 14, 2010-Grandma Z had this room, the room had a milk separator, I really don't know what it was called, but it did separate the cream from the milk. I thought that was really neat. The cows name was Daisy, at least that is what I called her, my brother tryed to ride, sweet lookin Daisy. He didn't stay on too long, he went a flying. I remember Daisy had little bangs over her horns, she was so cute.

Jan. 18, 2010-That same room had a large tub, Grandma Z heated water so I could take a bath, no in door plumbing when I was young, that came later, thank goodness.

Her house had a wonderful smell, lye soap, I think.

Feb. 10, 2010-Reading about Grandma Z's anniversary, made me think of my Dad. What a wonderful person he was, but not really affectionate, but that was the way he was raised. My Dad would ask me to go out and buy my Mother a gift and a card, then he would sign the card "from" instead of "Love", but he would change it after I would say something.

June 2010-Took a long weekend trip to North Carolina for a "Sample Book Making" class.

My finger is better, still pains me a little when I type caps, still have the two fingers taped together. Go back to the doctor in a few week, think I will live.
